Volunteer Activities

We’ve included this page, highlighting our various volunteer roles and experiences for a number of reasons: they provide another opportunity to give back to the community we live within; we learn lessons that enrich our work; and some days and weeks, we find ourselves spending more time on these organizations than we do on our clients!

Much of what we have done, stems from our involvement in our kids’ schools and the exceptional community in which we live, Brookline. Currently, Tom is the Chairman of the Board of Brookline’s Community Foundation, the Brookline Community Foundation Previously, he served as its Treasurer. Tom is also the Immediate Past President of Camperships For Nebagamon, an organization that raises funds to support camperships (like scholarships) that make first-rate private summer camping experiences available to children who would not otherwise be able to afford them. Tom spent a decade working with the Pierce School Extended Day program (PSED) – first as Treasurer of the board, then as board President. It was through his work with PSED that he ended up being a founding member of an umbrella organization – BEDAC (Brookline Extended Day Advisory Council) – that supports the eight independent extended days across town.

Julia is currently a trustee of The Ruddie Memorial Youth Foundation whose mission is to identify and disseminate innovative and effective programs that help youth reach their full potential. Julia has also spent countless hours co-producing and supporting theater productions at Pierce School, and was an organizer of Understanding Disabilities, a program to increase awareness and empathy among schoolchildren for those who are differently abled .  Julia also has served as a board member, and past President, of Artbarn Community Theater.
